Great Success = Great Sacrifice

Have you ever wondered why we are living in this world? what’s our purpose or do we have any? Do you people think it is important to know, do you think we can possibly find the answers to those questions? I think not. I believe in our life we have neither purpose nor some kind of destiny.

Why do I think so? See yourself, when there are horrifying accidents, tragedies happen, which might cause losing people’s’ property or even worse their lives, do you think it has been written to them, do you think that’s the purpose of their life? heck no! It just an unfortunate circumstances, situations, that we have deal with. Nothing more, nothing less. I believe, we all build our own path, our own way of living life, and there is a great quote for it: “You are the architect of your life”

Having said that, in order to get something valuable, you have to give something back. And that’s what we call a “Sacrifice”. In other words, sacrifice is a loss or something you give up, usually for the sake of a better cause.

We all naturally want to become successful, some of us like to look for shortcuts, easy ways, while some of us concentrate on longer road avoiding anything that make them comfortable, and there is nothing wrong with it, both ways eventually will bring you to the place where you deserve to be. But from my point of view or based on my experience the key of your success will be measured by the level of the sacrifices you make during your journey.

Certainly, in order to succeed you also need to consider other aspects like “discipline”, “specific goals”, “tremendous work ”, “vision”, “focus”. Just like building a house, you need to lay a foundation, pour the concrete, set up building lines, install the floor and so on. They are all equally important, it’s not going to work if any of the element is missing. Nevertheless, when it comes to applying those elements to yourself, sacrificing might (could) be the toughest thing to do. Both physically and emotionally.

Speaking about myself, I haven’t been back to my country since 2011, it’s not that I don’t want to or don’t have any choice, but simply I’m intentionally sacrificing the time with my family, with my friends, missing all the priceless moments in their lives, such as marriages of my brother and four of my bestfriends that I grow up with. On top of that I’ve not got to witness very first steps of my niece, who is going to turn 2 in two months (October 15). Yes it’s extremely hard to stay away from most important people in my life, but in other hand I have a clear goal and vision in my mind that forcing me to make those sacrifices, because of I’m giving up time with my family, it automatically drives me towards to my target, the feeling of losing something important in my life gives me extra energy to keep fighting and challenging myself, otherwise I know, if I don’t progress and achieve my mission here, all those sacrifices would be for nothing.

I have no rights to fail. That really does push me stronger and stronger. Bottom line, I’m giving up everything I’ve ever known, or I everyone I love, for sake of something greater. Needless to say, when the right time comes, those people will be awarded as well.

People make sacrifices day by day, it could be sacrificing your sleep, friends, career, free time, social life, stability, relationships, personal wants and even health. Sacrifice is a part of life. It’s supposed to be. It’s not something to regret. It’s something to aspire to. Greatest people great for a reason, mostly because they have done something great in their life.

To illustrate, Jim Carrey at the age 16, while his family was financially suffering, had to sacrifice his education and factory job, to focus on comedy full time, he even wrote a check for $10,000,000, which he dated for Thanksgiving 1995. He could have stayed at school and help to his family somehow by working at the average job, that would have been easiest way for him. Instead, he had to sacrifice his comfort zone and eventually became one of the greatest comedian in the history of the cinema. As a matter of fact, the fake check that he wrote to himself, became real just before the date he put on it, payday came from the movie “Dumb and Dumber”. Visualize your target and do your sacrifice my friend.

Another good story, Sylvester Stallone – He was a struggling actor in every definition. He was so broke he sold his wife’s jewelry and his dog for $25.

After all, he sat down and wrote the screenplay for Rocky in 20 hours. He tried to sell it. He got an offer for $125,000 for his script! That money would have changed his life, it would have made everything easy for him. But he had one request. He wanted to star in the movie. The studio said no way. A few weeks later, they offered $250,000 then $325,000. They wanted his movie but not him. He said no. Again Silvester, had to sacrifice his temporary situation to the bright future, he knew if he accepts the offer it could have solved his current position, but wouldn’t solve the his future.

Eventually, The studio agreed on giving him $35,000 for the screenplay and let him star in it. The rest is the history. It won Best Picture at the Oscars and took him to stardom. Quoting Napoleon Hill: Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness.

I’m not there yet, but I feel the the progress and results by all the sacrifices I make in daily basis.

It’s not hard to decide what you want your life to be about. What’s hard, is figuring out what you’re willing to give up in order to do things you really care about. That’s what separates greatest from failures. Because the best things in this world require the biggest sacrifice. Period.
